Welcome to TeenLife

Career paths are rarely linear. Some develop with a clear direction, while others are influenced by unexpected twists and turns. Regardless of the route, each journey tells a powerful story, one that can inspire and guide the next generation. Today, we share the remarkable journey of a dedicated professional whose career reflects passion, purpose, and a commitment to serving others. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Nomadlozi Masango for generously sharing her story, one that offers not only insight and wisdom but also a realistic and inspiring perspective for today’s youth navigating their own career decisions.

A Career Rooted in Purpose

Nomadlozi currently serves as the director of her consulting firm specialising in HR and employee wellness. Through her work, she engages with organisations to offer a range of services, including HR consulting, wellness initiatives, organisational development, change management, customised training design, and the development and revision of HR-related policies. Her passion for people extends far beyond her professional responsibilities. As a skills-based volunteer and philanthropist, she dedicates her time and expertise to supporting non-profit organisations, prisons, hospitals, and youth-focused initiatives. Her work is a powerful testament to the impact of using one's skills for the greater good.

Humble Beginnings and a Desire to Contribute

Like many professionals, Nomadlozi’s career didn’t follow a predetermined roadmap. Instead, it evolved organically through curiosity, continuous learning, and a drive to make a meaningful difference. “I didn’t always know exactly where I wanted to end up, but I knew I wanted to grow, learn, and contribute in a meaningful way.” She began her academic journey at the University of Pretoria, earning a Master’s degree in Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), a specialization rooted in wellness and organisational support. This multidisciplinary field is closely aligned with social work, psychology, and human resources, opening up a variety of career pathways, including roles such as Employee Wellness Practitioner, Wellness Consultant, HR Director, and Organisational Development Specialist. Opportunities in this space exist in both the public and private sectors, and with the right experience and qualifications, one can even establish an independent consulting practice, as Nomadlozi has successfully done.

A Career of Growth and Impact

Nomadlozi’s professional journey began as a social worker, which led to a role as an EAP practitioner at Ford Motor Company and later at Aventis Pharmaceuticals. Her career continued to evolve with roles such as:

  •  Lecturer at the University of Pretoria
  • Corporate Wellness Consultant in the private sector
  • Wellness Consultant for the Auditor-General of South Africa
  • Performance Management Consultant
  • HR Business Partner
  • Organisational Development Specialist
  • Senior Manager: Performance and Talent
This rich and varied experience reflects her adaptability and commitment to lifelong learning.

A Changing Landscape in the Wellness Space

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Organisations have become increasingly aware of the importance of employee wellbeing. The demand for wellness and HR professionals has grown significantly, as companies recognize that healthy, engaged employees are essential to sustainable performance and productivity. This shift has created exciting new opportunities for professionals who are passionate about wellness, mental health, and organisational support.

Words of Wisdom for the Next Generation

Nomadlozi’s story is a powerful reminder that you don’t need to have everything figured out from the start. What matters most is a willingness to explore, grow, and stay aligned with your values. “You don’t have to have it all figured out right away. Explore your interests. Ask questions. Try new things. The right path will reveal itself over time.” This journey is more than a career progression; it’s a calling grounded in purpose, compassion, and service. Let it be a source of encouragement for anyone seeking to make a meaningful impact through their work. Let’s keep the conversation going.
